An Asian Country with Telenovela People

Santos, Gonzalez, Lopez, Mendosa and de Guzman, have you ever heard those names every time Philippines appeared on the screen during sport competition? Did you ever think why Filipinos have latino names meanwhile they are asian? How could they have those names with a fact that they have very long distance with latinos country.

Well, in Asia at least there are three areas that use Latin, that are Philippine, Macau, and Timor Leste. Philippines use Spanish and the last two countries use Portuguese, they called Asian-Latin not only because they speak Latin but also because they have culture similarities with Latin. Located on the Pacific Ocean and area of ASEAN, Philippines is a republic country that people often called Latino-cultured country because in the past, Philippine has been colonialized by Spain for 333 years. Started when Ferdinand de Magellan arrived in Cebu in 1521. The long colonialized has made spain-alized in cultures, especially how Filipinos name their children.

About more than hundred vocabularies of Tagalog come from Spanish, even "Philippines" comes from King of Spain, Phillip II. Spanish has been used even until the last period of American Colonilization in Phillippine in the World War II. Unfortunately, start from 1987 Spanish was eliminated to be official language and replaced by Tagalog and English. But, in 2007 Spanish has raised again as Educational Language.

Americanized that because of American colonialization made a lot of young Filipinos weren't able speaking Spanish anymore. Even though the use of Spanish is decreased, the other Latino cultures still do exist until present days, for example is how Filipinos name their children by picking Latin names. That's why Philippines will always called the one of Latin country in Asia.

Is a Name a Prayer ?

Did you ever think the meaning of your name?
Let's see mine first. I was born 19 years ago, I am the only boy and the last who came up as a child in my family. It was hard knowing that I almost named Galang instead of Iman, it is because Galang sounds cooler and more masculine. However, I am glad for having name Iman Nugroho according to some reasons. The first, I more often listed in the middle of list of attendances because the first letter of my name is located at the 9th place in alphabetical order, so I don't need to worry if I instructed to come forward for sudden test or anything because there is an interlude for me to prepare. The second, "Iman" is rarely used because most of parents are more likely named their child "Imam", nevertheless, many strangers were often making miss-spelling and kept calling me "Imam" (How pity I am). And the last, off course because of its meaning. Before we go any further to unearth the meaning of my name, I need you to know that I was looking for the meaning of my name by myself because my parent didn't really know about its meaning. The first word Iman comes from Arabic امن (amana) that means Believing or Belief, and the second is Nugroho comes from Anugerah that means a Grace or Gift. So, I can conclude that Iman Nugroho means A Gift of Belief or Believe in Grace.

Well, do you think that a name is prayer? Did you ever heard something like "Look at Muhammad, his habit isn't as good as his name, he used to drink, swearing and has some crime historicals".

Then, I terminate that "Name" doesn't determine how people would be, but name is a prayer to its owner from every people who call it. So if a child named Slamet (Save), it doesn't mean that he
would never die, but hoping that he would find advantages or solving in every struggle.

And then, I will be a father as well in upcoming years. So, what would I name my son or daughter? Well, if a boy I would name him Farhan Nugroho or Rashal Nugroho, Farhan means Happiness or Happy, and Rashal, I don't know what the exact meaning of it cause it just sounds mild to hear. And if a girl I would name her Ashifa Anugrah or Shifa Anugrah. Ashifa or shifa means Healing or Medicine, that I am hoping that she would be my healer when I am down. In other hand, I have several english names for my child. If a boy I would name him Benedic, Christopher or George. And if a girl it would be Hannah, Jennie or Meble, I think Meble Nugroho would be funny.

So, what if I could change my name? Would I change it back to Galang? No, I would choose Raden for my name if it possible, I am not going to say that if I change my name to Raden so I would have a Leadership as its meaning ( Raden means Prince and Prince have good ability as Leader) because the things which built our characters are parent and environtment. And the reason why I choose Raden because its masculinity and alphabetical order.

The last, I am still learning english so if you guys found grammatical errors or anything, this blog provides comment column that you can use to tell me about. I appreciate your visit. Thank You.
